Volkswagen has just unveiled the sporty looking Gold R-Line range for those who find the popular family hatchback a bit too boring to look at. This new range differentiates itself from the standard range with the help of sporty exterior and interior design elements.
On the outside, there’s an R-Line rear spoiler, side skirts and radiator grille, a sleek front bumper and fog lights. Volkswagen is also offering a rear diffuser and 17-inch alloy wheels. The R-Line specification sits above the GT model which includes GPS navigation, sports suspension (lowered by approximately 10 mm) and PreCrash preventive occupant protection as standard equipment.
In keeping with the sporty theme, the interior receives stainless steel pedals and front door sills, sporty front seats with R-Line logo, black rooflining, leather gear knob and multifunction sports steering wheel.
Two Golf R-Line can be specced in either petrol or diesel engine. The petrol option is the familiar 1.4-litre TSI engine with Active Cylinder Technology, which can deactivate two of the four cylinders for enhanced economy. Delivering 150bhp of power between 4,500 and 6,000rpm, the four-cylinder engine is paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox or an optional 7-speed DSG. The diesel alternative is the 2-litre TDI with 150bhp of power. A 6-speed manual gearbox comes as standard, with a six-speed DSG also available.
Despite the numerous public appearances on Indian roads in the past, the Golf isn’t destined for the Indian market as it’s proving to be too expensive to be contemplated for Volkswagen India. Instead, the brand is said to be working on India-specific GTI versions of the Polo which represents the German brand in the premium hatchback category in India.
