- The all-new coupe-SUV is “new Urban Coupe”
- Will initially go on sale in the Brazilian market and slot below the T-Cross
- Expected to make its India as well as part of India 2.0 scheme.
Volkswagen plans to have an SUV in each segment that exists. Currently, the lineup includes models like T-Roc, T-Cross, Tiguan, Atlas, and many more are coming. The newest one we know now is a small coupe-SUV called T-Sport. Teased in design sketches, the T-Sport is called ‘new Urban Coupe’ by Volkswagen and will be positioned below the T-Cross.
The upcoming small coupe-SUV will initially go on sale in the Brazilian market but is developed as a global product. It will be built on the same platform as the Polo supermini and Virtus sedan and share the same production line as well. The initial sketch hints at similar design language as other SUV while also bringing in fresh elements. The raked roofline and stylish bumpers will make the T-Sport look very sporty.
The T-Sport is expected to arrive sometime in 2020. It will sit alongside the upcoming T-Cross Coupe which is also under development. Meanwhile, we suspect that the T-Sport will also make its way to India as a part of Volkswagen Group’s India 2.0 strategy. Given the affinity towards SUVs amongst Indian car buyers, a new, stylish small coupe-SUV should make sense to Volkswagen’s new product line-up in India when it arrives by 2022. It might come as Volkswagen’s take in the segment dominated by the likes of Ford EcoSport, Maruti Vitara Brezza and Hyundai Venue. More details of the VW T-Sport will be revealed in months to come, so stay tuned to CarWale.
