-The performance crossover will lock horns with BMW X2 M35i and Audi SQ2.
-Powered by a 2.0-litre TSI motor that sends power to 4Motion all-wheel-drive system.
-Coming to Geneva, but won’t make its way to India.
Volkswagen has taken the wraps off the new performance crossover – the T-Roc R. Based on the standard T-Roc, the R adds a powerful motor with all-wheel-drive along with aggressive styling making it the most desirable crossover in VW line-up.
Powered by the same 2.0-litre four-pot TSI motor from the Golf R, the T-Roc R comes with identical power output. The 300 horsepower and 400Nm of twisting force are channelled to the 4Motion system through a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission. Even the bigger brakes are scrounged from the Golf R hot hatch in the optional Performance Package. The T-Roc R can do the 0-100kmph sprint in just 4.9 seconds and will reach an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph.
Appearance wise, the fully-fledged R guise sports an aggressive styling with massive air intakes up front and quad exhaust tips at the rear. The sporty Akrapovic titanium exhaust system is also part of the package. The R sits on 18-inch alloy wheels as standard but can be upgraded to a 19-inch set as well. Also part of the package is a stiffer suspension setup that reduces the ride height while lending the crossover better handling characteristics, further enhanced by the standard progressive steering system.
The production-ready T-Roc R will be showcased at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show next month. Sales are expected to commence later this year. An Indian debut is unlikely. It will go up against other performance crossovers such as the BMW X2 M35i and Audi SQ2.
