-Lifestyle oriented vehicle to join the VW SUV clan
-2 door convertible with folding soft top
-Same engine and underpinnings as standard T-Cross
The Volkswagen T-Cross convertible has been spotted doing the rounds albeit in camouflaged guise. The T-Cross Breeze was the concept car for Volkswagen’s Polo based SUV and in late 2017, VW did announce that they would make a convertible version of the T-Cross after the standard car was launched.
In the history of its existence, Volkswagen has always had convertible models right from the humble little Beetle all the way to its hot hatches and performance sedans in the 1980s, so it only seems logical that there would be a convertible car(s) in its SUV era.
This T-Cross cabriolet or T-Cross Breeze, as they are most likely to call it, is a two-door model and is expected to make use of the same engine, underpinnings and even cabin as the hardtop T-Cross. It is likely to bring out at least one electric powered model and hybrid model when it hits public roads in the next two years. The car in the photos pretty much looks ready to go, an indication that we may see the production version being unveiled soon.
Could it come to India? In the current scenario, it is highly unlikely as there is almost no market for budget convertibles or even just convertibles for that matter. However, going forward VW could push it as a lifestyle product along the lines of how it sells the GTI hot hatchback.
