Volkswagen recently announced its strategic roadmap which it has called Transform 2025. In this it has announced various steps to take forward the brand into the future and in this plan, India has been clubbed with South America and Russia as part of the developing markets.
Firstly, they have said that they will focus on developing the entry-level segment for the Indian market, which means that we can expect more models in the B-segment and C-segment locally. Chief among these will be an SUV offensive.
We are expected to get the production version of the Polo based T-Roc SUV which will be locally produced. In addition we will also get the Tiguan and possibly the Touraeg in its latest avatar. In addition, they have now confirmed that no new products will be built on the older platforms and that it will be phased out by 2025. This indicates that their versatile MQB will be the base of choice for all vehicles including the next generation Polo.
The company has already indicated heavily on a push for electric vehicles and has even developed a new electric platform which it has called MEB. We believe that models from the premium end of this platform will arrive in India and once the infrastructure has been developed, we will get the more budget oriented electric cars.
