The new Volkswagen Beetle will be launched in India on December 19. This new version was first shown in 2012 and is an evolution of the Beetle model that was introduced in 1997 and carried on until 2009. Rs 1 lakh.
The India-spec 2016 Beetle will be offered with a 1.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 147bhp and is mated to a seven-speed DSG that sends power to the front wheels. It will be offered in four colours that includes blue, orange, red and white.
In terms of exterior design, we can see the iconic bug shape thanks to headlamps, and noticeable rear-end which is dominated by the round tail and rear spoiler. Standard features include 16-inch alloy wheels, bi-xenon headlamps with daytime LED DRLs and a panoramic sunroof.
Moving to the cabin, we can see a four seat design, black interior (with body coloured panels), ambient lighting touchscreen infotainment system, climate control, chrome moulding, keyless entry and start, four airbags and ABS with EBD. The front seats are height adjustable and have lumbar support and also can be heated.
The 2016 Beetle will be imported to India as a CBU and is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 25-30 lakh. It will compete with the Mini Cooper and the Abarth 595 in the Indian market.
