The Volkswagen Beetle presently on sale in India was launched in Dec 2015 and might soon get a special edition. This should spark new interest in prospective buyers and even existing customers.
The special edition VW Beetle is expected to get a sportier look thanks to the racing stripes on the hood, boot and the sides. The alloy wheels get a new design pattern and are painted in gun-metal finish. These might be up-sized to 17-inch from the current 16-inch ones. Otherwise, the 'bug car' will carry over the existing features. It sports bi-xenon headlamps, front fog lamps, electrically foldable ORVMs, dual exhaust and a rear spoiler.
There won't be any changes in the cabin that boasts of a dual-zone air-conditioning system, multi-function display and an infotainment system with eight speakers. Then there is a panoramic sunroof, auto-dimming rear view mirror and even cruise control. The heated front seats and the leather upholstery will also be the same.
An in-line four-cylinder 1,395cc TSI petrol engine paired to a seven-speed DSG gearbox will continue to power the Beetle. This engine churns out 148bhp of power and 250Nm of torque.
Although the Volkswagen Beetle has a different charm to it and caters to a niche audience, the sales of the car have eventually slowed down. This special package should help add a bit of flair to the hatchback and also attract more buyers. Volkswagen should start offering this special edition this month or the first week of January 2017.
