While most manufacturers are solely aiming at coming up with compact crossovers, Volkswagen is eyeing at both compact and large SUV segments for more volumes. Having introduced its new global compact crossover – the Tiguan, the brand is now working on an all-new 7-seater SUV.
This new model was recently spotted in China where it will be sold with three powertrain options – a 3.6-litre V6, a 2-litre four-cylinder turbo with a hybrid and a 2-litre turbo unit. The vehicle will be manufactured in North America and in China by the Shanghai-Volkswagen joint venture. As expected in a car of this size, Volkswagen will offer its 4Motion all-wheel drive system as well.
Volkswagen will position this seven-seater offering between the Tiguan and the Touareg. It is expected to make its debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show. Following its launch, it will mainly compete with the Ford Edge and the Toyota Highlander.
