Volkswagen have a sub-four-metre sedan ready for India, the polo-based sedan has been caught testing a few times. They have shared a teaser video asking people to guess the name of the new model, ahead of the Auto Expo debut.
The video showcases a few Volkswagen employees asking the camera to guess the name of their upcoming car. They also proudly state that this will be the first Volkswagen made for India. When the car was spotted testing, there were rumours floating around of the Polo-based sedan to be called the Ameo.
The Polo-based sedan or the Ameo is Volkswagen's attempt at making a sub-four-metre sedan to avail the tax benefits the government provides. The car will be a Polo with an added boot and the slightly reconstructed front-end. It will be mechanically identical to the Polo, using the 74bhp 1.2-litre MPi three-cylinder petrol engine and the 89bhp 1.5-litre TDI four-cylinder diesel engine. It is unsure whether Volkswagen India will option it with the GT variant petrol and diesel engines. If they do, the highest variant will feature the 103bhp 1.2-litre TSI petrol engine with the 7-speed DSG.
The car will go up against the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent and the Ford Figo Aspire. Volkswagen India will have to price the car competitively to enter the established market. It will be showcased at the Auto Expo in February 2016 and is expected to go on sale in the next few months.
