Volkswagen has unveiled yet another SUV for the Chinese market. The model in question is called Tharu and it will be launched in China later this year.
The Tharu is the production version of the Powerful Family SUV concept that was showcased in March. It’s based on the same platform as the Skoda Karoq. Interestingly, both the Tharu and the Karoq are manufactured in China by the Shanghai-Volkswagen joint venture.
Under the hood, you have multiple engine options. There’s a 116bhp 1.2-litre and a 150bhp 1.4-litre on offer. Both these turbo motors are paired to a seven-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox. The wheelbase for the car is set at 2688mm.
The Tharu looks like a mini Teramont and in China, it will go up against the likes of the Hyundai ix25 and Acura CDX.
