The Volkswagen Transporter is arguably among the best-selling vans of all time. Since the launch of the first Transporter model in 1950, Volkswagen has produced around 12 million units. Competing against the likes of Ford Transit and Mercedes Vito, the Transporter has just been unveiled in its all new avatar.
Volkswagen, in fact, has presented the sixth-generation of the Transporter model. Highlights on this new model include better safety, improved comfort and fuel economy.
The Transporter is a design icon in the commercial vehicle segment. It has evolved for more than six decades and the sixth-generation model is fairly recognisable, thanks to its sharp lines and edges running continuously from the front to the rear of the vehicle and the entire body that appears to have being milled from a solid block of metal.
The new Transporter will be offered with a range of Euro 6 compliant TDI engines. The power output ranges between 85bhp and 205bhp. The petrol range, on the other hand, displaces 2-litres and is offered with 150bhp or 205bhp.
Volkswagen has announced that the sixth-generation Transporter will arrive in the UK later this year. It will mainly compete with the Transit range of light commercial vehicles produced by Ford since 1965.
