Known for its range of efficient yet performance focussed TSI engines, Volkswagen has just unveiled a new range topping unit in the form of the new 6-litre W12 petrol engine. The brand introduced this new engine at this year’s Vienna Motor Symposium, the same venue where Audi revealed its new 2-litre, four-cylinder engine.
The new W12 TSI unit comes with the same arrangement as the old W12 engine, albeit with a lot of new tech for improved efficiency and performance. The engine, in fact, now features a pair of new twin-scroll turbochargers, active engine mounts and a new cooling system. For better efficiency, Volkswagen has even included cylinder deactivation and a stop-start system.
According to Volkswagen, the new 6-litre, W12 produces 600bhp of power, around 40bhp more than the current version. It will eventually power a range of cars from the Volkswagen Group including a number of Audi and Bentley models.
