Volkswagen has revealed the first phase of its EV offensive. The first car to come out of this offensive will be the production version of the ID hatchback. It is expected to be the size of the current Volkswagen Golf and will be produced at the German automaker’s Zwickau plant that is undergoing a massive redesign for the production of electric vehicles.
Pre-bookings for the ID will begin on 8 May with the unveiling for the production spec model set to happen at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. The automaker has already confirmed that it will be priced under 30000 EUR and have a range of 550km.
The ID will be followed by the ID Crozz SUV in 2020 and the ID Crozz coupe SUV in 2021. This is a vehicle comparable to the size of the Tiguan and is likely to showcase the latest in autonomous driving technology when it is launched. The final vehicle in the first phase will be the ID Buzz which is Volkswagen’s modern revival of their legendary Type 2 bus.Â
