Volkswagen has launched the diesel variant of the Polo hatchback in Nepal and will soon launch the India-made Vento sedan for the Algerian car market. The Polo hatchback will be sold by Pooja International, the official distributors for VW in Nepal. The India-made Vento on the other hand will be launched during the Alegris Motor Show and is likely to be called Polo sedan.
The Polo TDI is powered by a 1.2-litre motor which produces 74bhp, 180Nm of torque and has a ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 22.07kmpl. It will be launched in two variants; Comfortline and Highline and have the same features offered in the Comfortline and Highline variants sold in India. The Polo TDI Comfort line has been priced at 31.9 lakh Nepalese Rupees (Rs 20.02 lakh) and the Highline variant has been priced at 3.39 lakh Nepalese Rupees (Rs 21.27 lakh).
The Algerian spec Vento will be powered by the 1.6-litre petrol engine which produces 102bhp and 153Nm of torque. While the five-speed manual will be standard equipment, it is likely that VW may introduce the six-speed Highline automatic variant also.
The Vento is manufactured only in India, Russia and sold across Asia as well as the Middle East, but in an LHD guise. The Algerian market is current a hotbed for India made cars and looks set to expand quite heavily, giving manufacturers like Volkswagen and Maruti a chance to increase their exports.
