The Volkswagen Polo GTi has been teased ahead of its official launch which is expected to take place later this year. It is a high performance version of the German automaker’s hatchback and was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo.
This version of the Polo gets its famous GTi badging thanks to a potent little 1.8-petrol engine that produces a Euro 6 compliant output of 190bhp/316Nm with power going to the front wheels via a seven-speed DSG. It is also expected to get a stiffer suspension to match the crazy performance as well as a host of driver and safety aids.
In terms of exterior styling, the GTi, looks like a beefed up version of the regular Polo thanks to the sporty bumpers, large wheels, projector headlamps and of course the famous GTi badging at the front and rear. The cabin too is standard VW fare, save for larger touchscreen infotainment system and tartan upholstery for the seats. The car that was showcased at the Auto Expo was a two-door model but it is still unclear if we will get the car in the two-door or five-door variant.
It will be brought in via the CBU route and so is expected to cost close to Rs 20 lakh making it a niche offering in the market dominated by large sedans and SUVs.
