The Volkswagen Polo GTI has been spotted on test for the second time in India. The GTI is the most powerful version of the German automaker’s budget hatchback, it is expected to be launched sometime this year.
The red Polo GTI appears to be almost identical to the one spotted on test in July 2015. There are many enthusiasts who have visually modified their base Polos to replicate the GTI. But, looking at correct stance and the company plate, this one appears to be the real deal.
Along with the famous GTI badging, the Volkswagen gets GTI bumpers, twin exhaust tips, larger than standard alloy-wheels. The cabin is similar to that of the Polo GT TSI/TDI but with additional features and most probably some sporty bits.
India will get the Polo GTI with the 1.8 TSI engine, which is seen both in the Skoda Octavia and the Skoda Superb with a lower power and torque output. The GTI, gets this engine making 189bhp and 320Nm of torque in international markets. The car is mated to a seven-speed DSG gearbox, which makes this hot hatch go from 0-100kmph in just 6.7 seconds.
India will get the Polo GTI as a CKD unit and Volkswagen is expected to price the car between Rs 15 lakh – Rs 20 lakh. The GTI will be the most powerful hatchback in its segment and Fiat’s Abarth Punto will be its closest competitor.
