The hot hatchbacks have started making their entry in India recently. Last year, two of them got out attention – the Mini Cooper S and the Fiat Abarth Punto. And if you are an enthusiast, the year is starting on a brilliant note with the announcement of the Volkswagen Polo GTI. Here is a quick look at the car through a photo gallery.
The Polo GTI looks like the standard car in terms of design (only with three doors), though there are additional elements that showcase its performance lineage.
The red line across the front grille with honeycomb mesh, the red brake calipers, black top with sunroof, and the GTI badging are all the things that differentiate it from the standard car.
Inside, the first thing you will notice is the typical chequered GTI upholstery. Apart from that, the car gets contrasting red stitching and sporty pedals.
This version of the Polo is imported as a CBU directly from Germany and the fit and finish is different from the one built in India.
The Polo GTI uses the 1.8-litre four-cylinder TSI engine making 192bhp. It comes with the seven-speed DSG transmission powering the front wheels and electronic limited slip differential for sporty handling.
Volkswagen will position this car in comparison with the entry-level hatchbacks from Mercedes and BMW. The price tag is expected to be upwards of Rs 20 lakh, but if you are looking for a small fun car, there is hardly anything that can match this car in terms of performance.
