Volkswagen has launched the Polo GT TDI in the Indian market for Rs 8.08 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The GT TDI a diesel version of the German automaker’s hot hatchback that was launched in India on April 29, the GT TDI has almost all the same styling cues and features but makes uses of the 1.6-litre diesel engine from the Vento sedan. It is the fifth model to be based on the Polo hatchback after the standard Polo, the Cross Polo, the Polo GT TSI as well as the Vento sedan.
The Volkswagen Polo GT TDI is powered by the same 1.6-litre diesel engine that sits in the Vento sedan. It produces 105PS and 250Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gear box. The ARAI fuel efficiency has been pegged at 19.7kmpl.
The GT TDI on the outside looks exactly the same as its petrol twin and that means blacked out head lamps, special 16-inch Estrada alloy wheels and GT TDI badging at back. Inside the GT TDI dual tone fabrics for the upholstery, chrome pedals and accents, height adjustment for the driver’s seat, rear parking sensors leather wrapped steering (with reach and rake adjustment), gear knob and handbrake lever. It also gets a two-din music system with Bluetooth, USB, AUX and SD card compatibility as well as steering mounted audio controls. On the safety front, the GT TDI has been fitted with dual airbags, ABS, ESP, front and rear fog lamps, central locking all four disc brakes and engine immobiliser with floating code.

The battle of the hot hatchbacks has been opened wide again as the Fiat Punto Sport, Tata Indica Vista D90 and the Polo GT TSI (petrol) has got a new competitor in the form of the GT TDI. With a bigger output and larger feature list, the Polo GT TDI now has a strong chance of even upstaging its own petrol twin.
The car will be available for booking in three colours-red, black and white at your nearest dealer for a booking amount of Rs 50,000 from today.
