The Volkswagen Polo Cross has been spied testing near Chakan, just outside Pune by the team at Indiancarsbikes. The Polo Cross is basically a more muscular version of the standard Polo and features mainly cosmetic changes on the outside to make the car look bigger.
The bulking up comes in the form of plastic cladding on the sides, taller wheels, roof rails and larger restyled bumpers both in the front and the back. These are changes similar to what was seen on the Skoda Fabia Scout that was launched a few years ago.
Inside the Polo Cross remains pretty much the same as the standard car. The engine line up and underpinnings are all expected to remain the same as the standard car. This means that the Polo Cross, if launched, will be offered with one diesel mill and two petrol mills of which the latter includes the 1.2-litre 105PS TSI engine that was launched with the Polo GT. Power is transmitted to the front wheels vi a five speed manual or the seven speed DSG box that comes with Polo GT (petrol only).
It is likely that this car will reach our markets within the next one year or so, mainly due to the increase in demand for such vehicles. If launched here, it will compete with the EcoSport and Renault Duster.
