An SUV-based on the next generation Volkswagen Polo hatchback was spotted testing at the Nurburgring. This new addition to the Polo family is the production version of the T-Cross Breeze that was showcased in 2016. We have seen the next generation Polo sans camouflage and judging by that as well as recently uncovered images of the Golf based T-Roc crossover, it is not hard to imagine what this Polo SUV might look like under all that tarp.
To be an MQB underpinned model, this new Polo SUV will take its design cues from the next generation Polo and share its underpinnings with the same. In the photos, we can see that it will in essence be a crossover or to put it even more plainly, a high-riding Polo model. Noticeable elements include the side profile, wheels and a spoiler above the rear hatch door. It is expected to get the same interior as well engine options as the standard Polo, but with some extra cosmetic bits and bobs to give it the SUV feel.
Now here’s the important bit - this Polo based SUV has been confirmed for the Indian market and will be the fourth addition to the Polo family. It will join the likes of the Ameo, Vento, the Cross Polo and of course, the Polo itself. It is expected to be an India-spec compact SUV to take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Mahindra TUV300, Ford EcoSport as well as a model that Hyundai will launch in India in 2018.
