Volkswagen India has stopped the sales of the base variant of the Polo. The dealers have stopped taking bookings for now but also confirmed the sales will be resumed in next few weeks. The reason the sales have stopped is because the German manufacturer is equipping the base trendline variant with airbags.
Volkswagen along with other Indian manufacturers like Maruti-Suzuki and Ford were embarrassed after the shocking results of the global NCAP tests. The ratings weren’t quite good and the manufacturers were left exposed. Just few days after the results were out, the Indian arm of the German company sent a press release stating as the dual front airbags will be standard for all the Polo’s.
Few dealers we spoke to have no clue about the availability of the Polo trendline. They also acknowledged that they are not sure if this change will result into a good sale as it has done to keep the brands value intact and not a customer requirement.
