Volkswagen India has launched the new generation Passat in India at an introductory price of Rs 29.99 lakhs (all-India, ex-showroom). The flagship sedan comes in two trims – Comfortline and Highline with six colour options and a single powertrain.
The Passat is in its eight generation worldwide, but it's the third generation for the Indian market. The sedan is based on the MQB platform and is built at Volkswagen's Aurangabad facility in Maharashtra.
The all-new Passat carries the Volkswagen’s new family design. It continues with its sleek and simple yet graceful sedan lines. The horizontally louvred grille is similar to the older model which can also be seen in the new Tiguan. The LED day-time running lights are elegant and add a modern touch to the understated styling. The rear tail lights too carry a subtle styling akin to the outgoing model.
On the inside, Volkswagen has provided the new Passat with all the bells and whistles for its segment. So there is a digital screen integrated into the instrument cluster which can double up as a navigation screen. There is a three-zone climate control, premium leather upholstery, driving modes, TPMS, electric seats with memory function, smartphone integration, park assist and 17-inch alloy wheels as standard fitments. The sedan also comes with a host of passive safety features as standard.
Powering the D-segment sedan is a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine producing 174bhp and 350Nm. It is the same motor that does duties in the Skoda Superb and the Audi A4. Transmission is a six-speed DSG powering the front wheels.
The new Passat enters into the fray with the likes of the Skoda Superb, Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord. The introductory ex-showroom all-India prices for the new Volkswagen Passat is as follows –
