Volkswagen had, last month, announced that it would be bringing the Tiguan and the new Passat to the Indian market. Now ahead of their official debuts, both vehicles were spotted doing the rounds on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. Both are new generation vehicles from Wolfsburg Automotive’s stables and will be offered with both petrol and diesel engine options.
Tiguan
The Tiguan is history in creation for the German automaker who will be venturing into a new segment with the launch of this vehicle. This is a D+segment SUV and will be offered as a five-seater vehicle. Unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show as the Tiguan All-Space, it will be known merely as Tiguan in India and is expected to debut just ahead of the festive season here. We believe that VW will offer the SUV with the 2.0-litre petrol and 2.0-litre diesel. However, both variants may be offered only with a seven-speed DSG.
New Passat
This is a new D+segment sedan and will revive the Passat name which was last seen in India in 2014 i. This new vehicle sports the latest VW design thus transforming the vehicle from a rounded shape to sharper lines and more defined edges. The Passat is expected to debut the locally built 2.0-litre TDI engine as well as the same 2.0-litre TSI unit that will power the Tiguan. We believe that VW will price this car in range of Rs 32 lakh to Rs 40 lakh putting it against cars like the Mercedes-Benz CLA, Audi A3, Mercedes-Benz GLA, BMW X1, BMW 1 Series and the upcoming Audi Q2.
