The economic recession seems not to have touched automakers from around the world. In a latest report from Volkswagen, the company claims to have done record deliveries (6.29 million vehicles) than compared to the prior year.
Earlier in 2008, the company had clocked delivery of 6.23 million vehicles.
On the year ahead, Christian Klingler, executive vice president, Group Sales and Marketing said, "The year 2010 will be a challenging year for all automakers. There are no signs of a sustained recovery on the global automotive market. Emerging markets such as China and Brazil will, however, show an upward trend."
The Volkswagen Group reported a pleasing sales situation on all three of its largest individual markets throughout 2009. In China, deliveries rose by 36.7 percent to 1.40 (1.03) million units. In the German market, the Group brands delivered a total of 1.24 (1.06; +17.5 percent) million vehicles. In Brazil, the Group reported a 8.7 percent increase in deliveries to 688,300 (633,300) units.
Company officials said that the demand for models such as the Volkswagen Fox, Polo, Golf, Scirocco, Tiguan and Passat CC, the Audi A3 and Q5, the SEAT Ibiza and Exeo and the Å koda Fabia and Superb was particularly encouraging.
