Volkswagen India has launched the 2015 Jetta at a starting price of Rs 14.15 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the 1.4-litre TSI petrol. The D-Segment challenger will be available in three variants and six trim levels.
The new Jetta gets minimal updates like a redesigned front bumper, grille, headlamps with LED lights. At the rear the car gets a small kink at the top of the bootlid and new tail lamps. The changes inside the cabin are again minimal and except the attention assist system and the new steering wheel borrowed from the Polo there is nothing to talk home about.
Mechanically, it will continue to be powered by the 1.4-litre TSI petrol and the 2.0-litre TDI diesel engines. The diesel is available with a choice of two transmissions - 6-speed manual and 6-speed DSG whereas the petrol is available with only the 6-speed manual.
The 2015 Jetta competes with the Toyota Corolla, Chevrolet Cruze, Hyundai Elantra and the Skoda Octavia. At a starting price of Rs 14.15 lakh it isn’t a value for money package, as the diesel is the best bet if you want to own a Jetta and at Rs 20.17 lakh the top-end diesel is expensive. However, it would appeal to someone looking to buy a car with good build quality and understated styling.
