Volkswagen has launched a sporty version of the Polo hatchback called the SR (Sports Racer) for Rs 6.27 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The SR trim is available only with the 1.2-litre petrol engine and is mostly cosmetic in nature.
On the outside, the SR polo gets an ‘Aero Sports Package’ which comprises skirts, rear roof spoiler, 15inch alloy wheels, chrome exhaust, chrome stripe on the boot lid and SR badges on the C-pillar. Inside apart from the standard equipment found on the Polo there are also steering mounted audio controls, adjustable steering wheel and climatronic AC. The upgraded RCD 320 2 DIN music system with four speakers, USB, Aux-in and Bluetooth connectivity is also included.
However, under the hood the Polo SR will continue to be powered by the 1.2-litre petrol mill that produces 75bhp and 110Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to the wheels via five-speed manual gearbox.
For its price the Polo SR packs a decent level of equipment and is likely to boost sales of the model. However, since the diesel variant is higher seller for the German auto giant, it would seem like a logical step to also introduce a Polo SR TDI.
