Volkswagen has launched a petrol version of the facelifted Cross Polo in India for Rs 6.49 lakh (Ex-showroom Mumbai). When VW had launched the facelifted Polo last year, they had revealed the updated Cross Polo and eventually launched the diesel version a short while later. This is the first time that VW is launching a petrol version of the hatchover for the Indian market.
First things first, it gets the 1.2-litre three pot petrol motor that produces 75bhp and 110Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox. The external and internal design (save for the badging) is exactly the same as the diesel version.
In terms of safety, the Cross Polo gets ABS and dual front airbags. As with the rest of the Volkswagen Polo range, the New Cross Polo comes with a 4-star NCAP safety rating.
Speaking on the launch of the petrol powered Cross Polo, Michael Mayer, director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, said, “With the New Volkswagen Cross Polo, we will inject some excitement into the premium hatchback segment in India. With its rugged, dynamic styling, upmarket interiors and high levels of safety, we are sure the New Cross Polo will appeal to buyers who like a bit of sportiness and individuality in their cars.”
The car is available in three shades-red, black and silver. Booking for the hatchover will open on January 15. It competes in the B-segment with the Fiat Avventura, Toyota Etios Cross as well as the soon to be launched Hyundai Elite i20 based crossover.
