Volkswagen celebrates Jetta GLI’s 30th birthday by announcing a special edition of the car dubbed as Jetta GLI Edition 30. The vehicle is celebrating 30 years of its existence in the United States of America.
The German automaker has made minor changes to the appearance of the Jetta GLI which makes the Edition 30. The new model will be made available in four colours- Tornado Red, Deep Black Metallic, Reflex Silver Metallic and Pure White. Bi-xenon headlamps and DRLs are added to this car. With special badging, this model boasts of a trunk-mounted spoiler and gets 18-inch Laguna style alloys.
On the inside, there are again some alterations showing the exclusivity of the vehicle. A carbon fibre look is given to some components on the dashboard and the steering comes wrapped in leather. The V-Tex leather seats are accentuated with red stitching. Special floor mats are seen in the cabin and sill plates come with ‘Edition 30’ badging. The other features that this model brags about are an infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity, SiriusXM satellite radio, GPS navigation and a rear-view camera.
The Jetta GLI Edition 30 comes equipped with the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder TSI engine powering the regular car. The mill churns out 210bhp of power and 280Nm of torque. This is either mated to a six-speed manual or a dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The Jetta GLI was first introduced back in 1984. With advancements to the mechanical bits and cosmetic changes, the car has seen a wide transformation all the years. The Edition 30 will mark the car’s successful run for three decades. This special edition is expected to be launched early in 2014 and prices will be announced as soon as the unveiling date approaches. Since Volkswagen plans to sell only the Edition 30 and not the standard GLI next year, we doubt the new variant will be exorbitantly priced.
