Volkswagen is recalling 1.6 million cars that have the seven-speed DSG box (DS200) over an issue with the synthetic oil that is used in the gearbox. The company in a statement has said that the synthetic oil is responsible for causing a short circuit. It adds that the problem is quite evident in countries which have a hot and humid environment but will change the oil in every car’s gearbox, no matter the location. It will replace the synthetic oil with a mineral one as a corrective measure.
The company further said that in VW cars equipped with the seven-speed DSG (DQ200) in China and South East Asia, an electric malfunction could occur in the gearbox power supply if the synthetic oil is used. This is a major problem in hot and humid climatic conditions combined with a significant amount of stop and go driving.
VW India has said that its cars equipped with the seven-speed DSG in India, currently the Polo GT TSI and the Vento GT TSI, will not be affected by the recall.Volkswagen India has issued the following statement to put all doubts to rest, "This recall does not have any bearing to the Indian market and hence does not affect the Indian market in any way."
