German auto giant Volkswagen is expanding its production capacity in China with the addition of a new vehicle plant. Located in Changsha, southern China, this new production facility is VW’s 119th global facility and its 20th in China.
The new plant, which is about 900km to the west of Shanghai, will produce a number of Volkswagen and Skoda vehicles. With a total capacity of about 300,000 vehicles per year, the plant is reportedly creating more than 4,000 new jobs, together with 4,000 more in the neighbouring supplier park.
Volkswagen has been in the Chinese market for more than 20 years now. In 2014, it delivered a total of about 3.7 million vehicles in China, marking an increase of 12.4 per cent over the previous year.
