- The ID Roomzz will be showcased at Auto Shanghai 2019.
- Will be in a near-production concept guise.
- The sixth model in the growing ID family.
Volkswagen has dropped a teaser for ID Roomzz, a pure-electric full-size SUV which will be revealed at this month’s Shanghai Motor Show. The sixth member of the growing ID family, the ID Roomzz will be in near-production concept guise.
No powertrain details of the ID Roomzz have been divulged at the moment, but we know that it will be based on the same modular electric drive matrix (MEB) as the rest of the ID family. It will have a number of innovations on board, claims the carmaker, such as variability of the vehicle interior, boasting completely new seat configurations, high-quality materials and customizable light. Moreover, the IQ DRIVE systems of the Roomzz in the Pilot mode also lends it Level 4 autonomous driving credentials.
The teaser image reveals a familiar face of the ID vehicles with sleek LED headlamps illuminating the entire fascia. The pronounced wheel arches both fore and aft are hard to miss apart from the centre placed door handles (indicative of suicidal doors). There are LiDar sensors on the roof alongside the roof rails and the massive wheels remain true to a VW concept.
Klaus Bischoff, chief designer of Volkswagen, commenting on the new ID product, said, “The Roomzz shows us what we can expect from full-size electric SUVs in the future. The puristic look emphasizes the clear function and the user experience is intuitive and natural”.
More details of the upcoming Volkswagen concept and other coverage from the Shanghai Motor Show will be revealed in the days to come, so stay tuned to CarWale.
