Volkswagen introduced their hot hatch, the GTI for the Indian enthusiasts to quench their thirst for performance. However, the price badge on the German hot hatch was steep at 26.90 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi. But recently with the introduction of GST in India, the new tax structure shaves Rs 7 lakhs off the price of the Volkswagen GTI. The car is now priced at an attainable Rs 19.99 lakhs.
The Volkswagen GTI is delivered to the Indian soil via CBU (Completely Built-up Unit) route. However, only 99 units of the hot hatch were allotted to Indian market so far and the Volkswagen GTI was exclusively available in select Volkswagen showrooms across India.
On the exterior, the German hatch looks very similar to its younger sibling, the VW Polo, however the GTI is a three-door hatchback unlike the Polo, which is a five-door hatch. Up front, the GTI gets the iconic honey comb grille with a ‘GTI’ badge and red accents to highlight its sporty nature.
Under the hood is a 1.8-litre TSI motor which produces 189bhp and 250Nm of torque. The front wheel drive engine is coupled to a seven speed DSG gearbox.
So, if you have always been looking forward to buy the fastest hatchback in the country, now seems like the right time.
