The Volkswagen Group has had a great sales run so far this year. According to the latest figures, the German manufacturer has delivered up to 4.2 million vehicles from January to May 2015.
Despite the rather tense market situation in the South America region and in Russia, Volkswagen has had a positive sales run thanks to recent developments in Europe. “Deliveries so far this year have been characterised by mixed market trends. Even with their broad range of young and eco-friendly models, the Volkswagen Group brands are not entirely immune to this situation.” said Christian Klingler, Group Board Member for Sales.
The Group brands including Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, Seat, Porsche, Bentley and Lamborghini delivered a total of 1.73 million vehicles in the overall European market from January to May, of which 9.36 lakh units were handed over in Western Europe (excluding Germany), marking a 6.3 per cent rise over the same period last year. However, deliveries in Russia continued to decline with 69,900 vehicles sold, down by a massive 40.8 per cent than the previous year.
As for the North American markets, the group delivered 3.7 lakh vehicles in the North America region from January to May, of which 2.41 lakh units were sold in the United States. Meanwhile, 2.48 lakh units were shipped to South America region during the same period, of which 1.77 lakh cars were sold in Brazil.
While we do not have the Volkswagen Group’s India development prospects just yet, the manufacturer has been doing well lately by actively introducing products in the luxury end of the market.
