Volkswagen has unveiled yet another hot version of the Golf, the only difference this time is that this new creation is a limited edition model, and a properly fast one at that. Called the Golf Clubsport S, this new limited run model has broken the lap record for front-wheel drive cars on the infamous Nurburgring Nordschleife in Germany.
With a time of 7 minutes and 49 seconds, the Golf Clubsport S is the fastest fr ont-wheel drive car around the Nurburgring. It even has something called as the Nurburgring setting, which can be accessed using the driving profile selector. The setting fine tunes the adaptive chassis control, engine, steering and sound to suit the Nordschleife.
Under the hood there’s a 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine making 306bhp of power and 380Nm of torque. Power goes to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox and despite the lack of all-wheel drive traction off the line, the Clubsport S is quick to accelerate from 0-100kmph in just 5.8 seconds.
For maximum on track performance, Volkswagen has turned this Golf into a two-seater, having removed the rear seats to save weight. As a matter of fact, it’s beaten the previous record holder i.e. the Honda Civic Type R by a second and a half.
