Volkswagen has officially confirmed its plans of introducing a new sub-four metre sedan in the Indian market. Speaking during the inauguration of the German manufacturer’s new showroom in Coimbatore, Mr Thierry Lespiaucq, MD, Volkswagen India, said that this new compact sedan will be priced above Rs 5 lakh and will go on sale in 2016.
The new compact sedan will be based on the Polo’s architecture and will be a shortened version of the Vento sedan. Previous spy shots have shown that the compact sedan’s overall design has been carried from the standard Vento. Unlike the other compact sedans in the Indian market, the boot of the Vento compact sedan manages to look proportional to the rest of the car. It will be offered with the same powertrain options as the hatchback.
The final production model of the Vento compact sedan is expected to be ready in time for next year’s Delhi Auto Expo. The Vento compact sedan will be the new entry-level sedan in Volkswagen’s Indian line-up and will compete with the Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Zest and the segment leader – Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire.
