Volkswagen Motorsport India has announced the list of 22 drivers who will compete in the recently announced 2015 Vento Cup series. Sixteen new drivers have been added to the grid and they will race alongside the six drivers from last year’s Polo R cup.
The drivers were selected via a two round process held at the Indi Karting Track that tested 67 applicants for consistency, understanding of racing lines, fitness, lap times and acceptance for learning. The selected drivers will be further trained to improve their skills and the fitness level to compete in the forthcoming series. 2015 Vento Cup replaces the Polo R Cup as the only one-make car racing championship in the country. The Vento Cup will commence in July alongside the Nation Racing Championship.
Mr. Sirish Vissa, Head of Volkswagen Motorsport India, commented “At the first two rounds of selection, we saw some talented drivers coming forward. They showed their skills and eagerness to learn – exactly what needs to be groomed further.” He further added, “It is interesting to see that this year we have drivers from each part of the country. We will now train these drivers for fitness which is a must for racing and also give them an opportunity to test our race cars on the race track before the first competitive round in July.”
