The Indian market, as we know, is one of the most crucial markets for Volkswagen and the brand is in for a shout with a long term commitment. Volkswagen, in fact, is currently working on a new compact sedan that will debut at the 2016 Auto Expo in February 2016 and go on sale later in the year.
The upcoming compact sedan will be made at Volkswagen’s Pune facility with production scheduled to commence in the first half of 2016. Volkswagen says this new model has been developed specifically for the Indian market.
As part of its long-term investment plan, Volkswagen is making an investment of Rs 720 crore towards development, setting up new equipment and ramping up the production of the new compact sedan. This is a part of the Rs 1,500 crore investment that was announced by Volkswagen India at the beginning of 2014.
Volkswagen’s Pune facility is being readied for the production of the new model with changes and installation of new equipment. The plant will start producing the new India-specific model from the first half of 2016.
