Volkswagen has launched the special ‘Edition X’ Touareg to celebrate 10 years of the SUV’s existence. Jointly developed by VW, Audi and Porsche, it was unveiled in 2002 at the Paris Motor Show and was the German auto giant’s entry into the premium SUV market. The joint development also resulted in the creation of the Porsche Cayenne and the Audi Q7.
The Touareg X has been given a special makeover both on the inside and outside. Changes to the outside include special 19 inch alloy wheels, panoramic sunroof, bi-xenon headlights and LED light in the back and front. Painted in in Moonlight blue, the SUV has also been given tinted windows and a liberal sprinkling of Edition X logos all over.
Inside, Volkswagen has trimmed the SUV in amber brown Nappa leather with a special stitching. The central console and the doors both have a combination of light black plastic with wooden inserts while fabric mats have been used on the floor. Along with the Touareg X fittings, all features found on the top-end version of the SUV are standard in this model.
The Touareg X is being offered with all the engines that Volkswagen has for the SUV in Germany, including a 210bhp V6 TDI Bluemotion version that is mated to an eight speed transmission. The SUV is priced at 61,025 Euros (Rs 41.37 lakh) and is currently only on sale in Germany.
