The iconic Volkswagen Beetle was discontinued from the Indian market, but the manufacturer now plans to relaunch it by the end of this year.
The Beetle is a two-door hatchback from Volkswagen which grabs one's attention quickly due to its unique shape. It is an immaculately designed car and measures 4,278mm in length, 1,808mm in width, 1,486mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,537mm.
The Volkswagen Beetle is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder mill that churns out 114bhp of power and 172 Nm of torque. This engine comes mated to an automatic six-speed transmission type tiptronic gear box and power is delivered to the front wheels. Volkswagen claims the Beetle gives an ARAI efficiency of 11.3 kmpl while complying with the strict Euro IV emission norms.
The Beetle was first introduced in the Indian car market in 2009 and was later discontinued in 2013. It managed to sell around 500 units back then. However, Volkswagen is known for quality products and never for the sales numbers. So this time again, the Beetle will surely not be a volumes product, but serve buyers from the niche segment of the automobile industry. It is expected to be brought to our country via the CBU route.
