The iconic Volkswagen Beetle will soon make a comeback to the Indian market. The manufacturer has imported many units of the same and will relaunch it by the end of this year with the 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine.
The earlier one that was discontinued from the Indian market was powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder mill that churned out 114bhp of power and 172Nm of torque. This is the third generation Beetle that will be powered by a 1.4-litre TSI powerplant. It is expected to produce 158bhp of power and 240Nm of torque. This engine will come mated to the seven-speed DSG transmission and power will be delivered to the front wheels. The car is capable of doing the 0-100 kmph sprint in 8.3 seconds.
The Beetle is a two-door hatchback from Volkswagen that grabs one’s attention quickly due to its unique shape. It was first introduced to the Indian car market in 2009 and was later discontinued in 2013. The new Beetle will be brought to our country via the CBU route and will serve buyers from the niche segment of the automobile industry. It will then compete with the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, BMW 1-Series, Mini Cooper and the Fiat 595 Competizione.
