Volkswagen is mulling over developing a Shooting Brake version of its premium vehicle, the Arteon. The company wants to turn the Arteon into a model family and the Shooting Brake is a part of that strategy.
The Arteon has been developed to take on the likes of Audi A5 Sportback. This German vehicle is expected to go on sale in UK later this year and fill in the executive car void that was created when the Phaeton was discontinued two years ago. At the time of the launch, the Arteon will be available with two engine options – 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol that produces 276bhp and a 237bhp 2.0-litre turbodiesel engines. These motors will be mated to the seven-speed DSG gearbox and will also get the four-wheel drive options.
“It’s our intention to turn the Arteon into a model family. Right now, we have a proposal on the table for a stylish wagon version to compliment the hatchback. The car has not been confirmed for production yet, but it has a good chance," said Elmar Licharz, head of product line, Volkswagen UK.
