Volkswagen has actively participated in the Indian motorsport scene for years now. Having established its name in the one-make racing championships with the Polo Cup India, the German automaker has now announced that it has switched to the Vento sedan for its 2015 one-make racing series.
The brand has announced that it will be organising the Vento Cup for 2015. Like before, all the cars on the grid will make use of the brand’s 1.4-litre TSI engine producing around 180bhp of power. The turbocharged engine will be mated to a 6-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
All the cars will come equipped with FIA-prescribed safety features including a roll-cage, racing seat, 6-point seatbelt harness, fire extinguisher and the lot.
The Vento Cup will be held as a part of the 18th JK Tyre Racing Championship, with over 20 drivers expected to battle it out on the circuit. Volkswagen has revealed that registrations for the upcoming championship have begun and candidates will be selected and classified under three classes – Junior, Pro and Master.
