German automaker Volkswagen will debut in the popular segment in India with the Ameo compact sedan. The company dealers have started accepting bookings for the vehicle. For promotion, Volkswagen has organised road shows across 17 major cities which will begin from tomorrow and go on till July 2. Based on the Polo hatchback, the Ameo is claimed to be designed for the Indian roads.
The front of the new Volkswagen Ameo resembles the Polo hatchback. The rear, however, gets a little uplift design to give the car a mild muscular appeal. The vehicle gets a 330-litre boot space that can accommodate decent amount of luggage. As for the interiors, it comes with a touchscreen with MirrorLink infotainment system, automatic climate control, rear parking camera, rear AC vent, electronically adjustable steering, cooled glove box and adjustable steering.
The Volkswagen Ameo compact sedan will be offered with a 1.2 three-cylinder engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission that generates 74bhp of power and 110Nm of torque. While there are no plans to introduce a diesel variant for now, in future it is likely to come with a 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit which will generate about 89bhp of power and 230Nm of torque.
Speaking of features, the new Ameo will be offered with rain-sensing wipers, cruise control and static cornering lights. While safety features like dual front airbags and anti-lock brakes (ABS) will come as standard. We expect the Volkswagen Ameo to carry a price tag ranging between Rs 6 lakh to Rs 8 lakh.
