Volkswagen will only offer the petrol engine option when it launches the Ameo later this year. This is a 1.2 three-cylinder engine that produces 74bhp and 110Nm of torque. It is offered only with a five-speed manual and powers most of the petrol variants of the Polo.
The Ameo was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo and is VW’s entry into the competitive compact sedan. Although, we haven’t driven one, we did get to experience the Ameo from the passenger seat and you can read about that here.
The diesel is the 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit powering a variety of Volkswagen and Skoda vehicles. This engine produces 89bhp and 230Nm of torque. As standard it is mated to a five-speed manual but in the Rapid and Vento can also be had with a seven-speed DSG. It is believed that Volkswagen is updating this mill and will launch the Ameo directly with the updated engine.
It is expected to be launched by the middle of this year. It will be priced in the range of Rs 6 lakh to Rs 8 lakh. It will rival the likes of the Ford Figo, Hyundai Xcent, Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Honda Amaze.
