Volkswagen launched the all-new Ameo in India in June last year. The Ameo was VW’s take on the growing compact sedan segment and has been one of the highest selling model in their line-up since its inception. However, the Ameo never received any prominent update in its one and a half years of existence. Now, a test mule of a sportier variant of the Ameo has been spotted testing for the first time.
Expected to be launched early next year, the Ameo Sport will come as a direct competition to the Ford Aspire Sports Edition. The test mule was riding on blackened alloy wheels. There were decals on the doors, a blacked-out roof and lip-spoiler on the boot-lid. The cabin is also expected to get a sporty treatment similar to the exterior. All the expected addition to the Ameo Sport is akin to the one seen on the Ford Aspire Sports Edition.
Under the skin, the Ameo Sport will remain the same. The Ameo comes with two engine options – a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel. It is one of the most powerful cars in its segment. A five-speed manual transmission comes as standard. The Ameo is also the only one in the segment to offer a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
