Volkswagen has just revealed its new compact-saloon, the Ameo, that's just under four metres and will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze and the Hyundai Xcent.
On close inspection, the Ameo saloon's front end is almost similar to the Vento and the Polo except for the design crease below both the head lamps.
We noticed that the Ameo will come with LED signal indicators on the external mirrors. Though available on the Vento, it is a welcome addition over the Polo's equipment list.
The side profile projects the real differences that the Ameo rakes up. Beyond the rear door is where the updates to the Polo's sheet metal begin and the redesigned C-pillar is a reflection of this. The shoulder line carries on just like in the Polo, on to the boot section. Also seen is the new alloy wheel design.
The Ameo gets an armrest just like in the Vento and this works out to be a useful feature that works well in easing the driving duties.
The rear three quarters depict the new curve the C-pillar has taken towards the rear glass and the boot lines. The rear quarter glass and the rear door are the same as on the Polo.
Overall, the Ameo's rear section displays clean lines that are pleasing to the eye. The portion that holds the number plate folds inwards just like in the Skoda Rapid and its surprising that VW has used this design.
Petrol power will be sourced from the 1.2-litre three cylinder engine that develops 74bhp of power and 110Nm of torque and is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The 1.5-litre diesel motor will produce 89bhp and 230Nm of torque and will have the option of a five-speed manual transmission or the seven-speed DSG which will be offered with the 104bhp engine from the Vento.
You would agree that the interiors of VW's new compact saloon is exactly similar in design to the Polo's but there's a long list of equipment like rain sensing wipers and cruise control which is a segment first.
