The Volkswagen Ameo marks the German automaker’s debut in the compact sedan segment in India. Volkswagen India has commenced the production for the Ameo at its Chakan facility in Pune. The compact sedan will debut by mid-June, while deliveries will commence from July onwards. Interested customers can pre-book one by making a down payment of Rs 10,000.
Under the hood, the Volkswagen Ameo is powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder MPI petrol engine which generates 74bhp of power and 110Nm of peak torque. The 1.5-litre four-cylinder TDI diesel engine on the other hand generates 89bhp of power and 230Nm of torque. Both the engines come mated to a five-speed manual transmission, while seven-speed DSG transmission will be offered in only diesel guise.
The Volkswagen Ameo will be offered in three trims - Trendline, Comfortline and Highline and come in five interesting shades of Blue Silk, Reflex Silver, Toffee Brown, Candy White and Carbon Steel. As for safety, it comes loaded with ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), dual-front airbags, driver and passenger side, Electronic Stabilisation Programme (ESP) and Hill Hold control.
As for features, the new Volkswagen Ameo features height-adjustable driver's seat, an infotainment system with CD/MP3/USB/AUX-in/SD card and Bluetooth and iPod connectivity, reverse parking camera, central locking, tilt-and telescopic steering, electrically-adjustable ORVMs, automatic wipers and steering mounted audio controls. On the pricing aspect, it is anticipated to be priced between Rs 6 lakh – Rs 8.25 lakh.
