Last month we spotted the diesel model of the Volkswagen Ameo for the first time. The more efficient iteration of the sub-4 metre sedan was spotted in Maharashtra and now, it has been caught on camera again.
VW India launched the Ameo earlier this year but only with a petrol engine option. Since then the brand has been reworking the 1.5-litre diesel unit that, in all probability, will make 108bhp of power, five more than its predecessor and 230Nm of torque. Even the lower 89bhp setup is expected to make more power.
Like the petrol car, the Ameo diesel will be paired to a 5-speed gearbox as standard although a 7-speed DSG will be on offer too. Volkswagen has tailor-made the Ameo for the Indian market where sub-4 metre sedans are all the rage. With the introduction of the more efficient diesel option, the German automaker is looking to make a bigger impact in this burgeoning entry-level segment.
