The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza has emerged as a popular choice in the compact sedan space. Supporting claims, post the Brezza launch the company has witnessed a 26 per cent rise in comparison to the earlier 15 per cent. Maruti’s gain has resulted in loss for the utility vehicle segment leader Mahindra and Mahindra who has witnessed a drop of over 41 per cent share to lesser than 35 per cent within a span of three months.
Maruti Vitara Brezza has received over 50,000 unit bookings till the end of last month, which probably means that approximately 8,000 units would be delivered every month for the next six months. The numbers indeed hint that the Indian automaker will continue to hold its current share as it is. As per the data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, Hyundai has also reported a marginal decline in the utility vehicle segment.
In recent times, major automakers like Hyundai introduced Creta, Mahindra introduced three new products – the TUV300, KUV100 and the NuvoSport, while Maruti introduced the Vitara Brezza and Honda its compact SUV BR-V. In the coming days, the competition in the utility vehicle segment is expected to further grow stronger with more models like the Ignis being introduced by Maruti Suzuki.
Under the hood, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis gets a 1.3-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine that puts out 90bhp of power and 200Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission and claims to return a fuel efficiency figure of 24.3kmpl.
