The 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed just got a little more interesting for us. At the historic motor racing event, Vazirani Automotive will be taking the wraps off what they claim to be the first hypercar of India. Three years in the making, the hypercar is dubbed as Shul, and we’ll be able to see it in the concept guise in a couple of days’ time.
Vazirani Automotive was founded by Chunky Vazirani, a Mumbai-based graduate from the Art Centre in California, He has worked with major carmakers including Rolls-Royce, Jaguar, Land Rover, Volvo and Yamaha. Chunky aims at producing India’s hypercar which will be a car of tomorrow, but with a strong focus on design. The carmaker claims to have used the latest technology that hasn’t yet been implemented in the world of automobiles.
The fully-electric Shul hypercar will use a micro-turbine range extender which will be coupled to a light-weight battery pack. The micro-turbine will act as an onboard generator and will charge the batteries which in turn will power the electric motors. The Shul is said to have been designed by the producer of the Gran Turismo video game, Kazunori Yamauchi. No other information about the India-bred hypercar is available at the moment.
Design wise, Chunky says that the Shul will have a balance between art and science and will bring back the classic automotive elegance, but still execute it in a modern, relevant manner. The small teaser video previews a Le Mans prototype-like styling. There are futuristic elements as well with a lot of focus on the aerodynamic design. There is a massive wing at the rear, sleek LED headlights and taillights and a sensuous silhouette, something similar to the Hennessey Venom F5.
Revealing a car on a big platform such as Goodwood FoS is a huge task that Vazirani Automotive has decidedly undertaken. When the veil drops from India’s first hypercar, the whole world will be watching. We hope the Shul Concept is able to make jaws drop and leave people awestruck at the iconic British motor show.
